Equip India Charitable Trust (EICT) is a beacon of hope for children, youth, and women with disabilities across rural India. Founded in 1997, the organization has remained steadfast in its mission to empower people with disabilities by equipping them with the necessary tools to live independent and fulfilling lives. Through its pioneering community-based and institution-based rehabilitation models, Equip India works to remove the barriers faced by the marginalized, bringing transformative change to thousands of lives.

Our Story - History of Equip India

In 1997, the journey of Equip India began when Tim and Aruna Swauger, driven by their passion for serving people with disabilities, founded the organization in Hubli, Karnataka. With Tim’s expertise in NGO management and Aruna’s background in education and rehabilitation, the couple created a unique model that combines both Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and Institution-Based Rehabilitation (IBR), ensuring that no one is left behind.

Over the years, Equip India has grown from a grassroots initiative to an established organization that has transformed lives in over 100 villages in North Karnataka. With over two decades of service, the organization has built a strong network of partners and supporters who share their vision of a disability-inclusive society.
